Dartford manager Tony Burman is not yet resigned to losing Charlie Sheringham despite the highly-rated striker beginning talks with Bournemouth.
Sheringham is in Dorset this afternoon (Monday) to discuss terms with the Cherries after Dartford accepted an offer for the 23-year-old on Friday.
A deal is expected to go through at some point this week, but Burman is still hopeful of keeping his top scorer.
He said: “Charlie’s talking to them but there seems to be one or two issues at Bournemouth’s end which hopefully will be cleared up. We’ll see what happens either later today or over the next couple of days and if nothing comes off I’ll be absolutely delighted if Charlie stays with us.
“We don’t want to lose him but it’s not right for us to stop a player talking to a League One club.”
Away from the speculation, Burman is relishing the prospect of an FA Cup tie against rivals Bromley at Princes Park later this month after Monday’s fourth qualifying round draw paired the Kent sides together.
Dartford came from behind to beat Cray Wanderers 2-1 on Saturday to get within one victory of the first round proper.
Burman said: “Obviously I’m delighted to get a home draw. We have had some good games against Bromley in recent times and these are the sort of fixtures you’re in football for - I think it’ll be a cracking cup tie.”
The Darts beat Bromley 3-1 at home in the league in August and won 4-1 in May when they met in the final of the Kent Senior Cup.
