Kent golfers Warren Bennett and Steve Tiley still in with a chance of making the cut at The Open.

Bennet who plays at the Princes Golf Club in Sandwich, carded a one-over 71 at Royal Lytham & St Annes after a ten year absence from the tournament.

The 40-year-old gave up the game three years ago to caddie for Ladies Tour player Trish Johnson, but he returned to birdie the second, dropped shots at holes 5 and 7, and birdied at the ninth.

However he hit par on a number of the last holes and a bogey on the 17th to spoil the second half of his day.

Tiley, who plays at the Royal Cinque Ports, was a further shot back after a one-over 72. He dropped shots at 2, 8 and 15, but ended on a high with a birdie at 18.
