Scott Overall
Scott Overall makes his debut in the World Indoor Championships today hoping to secure a place in Sunday’s 3000-metre final.

The Blackheath & Bromley athlete is Great Britain’s only representative in the men’s 3000m race in the championships held in Doha, Qatar.

The 27-year-old earned selection to the biggest meeting of his career to date following an impressive performance at the Aviva Grand Prix in Birmingham last month.

Overall is aiming to repeat the form from last season which saw him become national 5000m champion. A strong performance in Qatar could significantly help his hopes of securing a spot in the Great Britain team for the European Championships (outdoor) in Barcelona in July.

Blackheath & Bromley men’s team manager, Pat Calnan, said: “It’s the highest level of competition Scott’s raced in, so he will be looking forward to it.

"It didn’t come as a surprise to see he was included in the squad because he’s been running well this season. I think to run a personal best and get through the heats will be his target, but a medal will be a tough as there are a lot of really top guys racing.”

Blackheath & Bromley enjoyed success in the World Masters Indoor Championships in Canada last week with Bill Foster winning gold in the over-50s 3000m.The 51-year-old clocked a time of 9 minutes 28 seconds, which was faster than his personal best from last season. Foster also went on to claim a bronze medal in the over-50s 1500m.
