A 54-year-old man is in police custody this morning after a day-long stand-off in Tunbridge Wells finally ended last night.

At 5.30pm police officers using public order tactics entered a flat in Crescent Road and arrested a man who had barricaded himself into the premises late on Monday evening.

The man was violent and had to be restrained by police.

He was taken into police custody.  No one was hurt during the incident.

The road remained shut while officers cleared the road of debris thrown from the building during the tense stand-off which had begun at 11.30pm on Monday night.

Crescent Road was closed to traffic causing jams in and around the area.

Chief Inspector Martin Wilson, Tunbridge Wells district commander said: “We have been able to resolve the incident and get the man safely from the premises without injury.

“Our aim throughout has been to bring the incident to a safe and peaceful conclusion.  It has meant some disruption to the local area and I would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding.”

The road re-opened last night.
