Joe Pasquale and Dani Harmer
KENT NEWS

COMIC Joe Pasquale and TV's Dani Harmer have followed the yellow brick road to Chatham ready for a new Easter pantomime production, writes Mathew Beech.

Joe will take up the role of the scarecrow, while Dani will return to the role of Dorothy four years since she last donned the red shoes at the Central Theatre’s Easter production of the Wizard of Oz.

Rochester resident and Central Theatre regular Joe said: “I’ve always come here over the last 15 years.

“I always come here on my stand-up tour, so it’s a nice local gig.”

The comic sees the show as an important step in getting youngsters hooked on the theatre.

He added: “At the moment, all kids know is what is behind a video screen.

“So when they get into a theatre for the first time, they’re like ‘I didn’t know it was like this’.
“I think it is important kids are introduced to the live theatre.”

Budding pop star and Tracey Beaker actress Dani Harmer reprises her role of Dorothy and is excited about the prospect of working on the show again.

“I did it four years ago when I was 17 and it’s the same cast and the same production so I jumped at the chance really,” she said.

“The audience is always good and the Wizard of Oz is everyone’s favourite film really, so I’m just pleased to be part of it.”

Producer Gary Telfer said: “We’re really looking forward to coming back to Medway with this fantastic Easter show.

“We know how popular the Christmas pantomime is and we hope to give people in the area another quality event during the year.

"I spoke to Joe Pasquale and Dani Harmer who plays Tracy Beaker yesterday and they’re both very excited to be returning to the Central Theatre in Chatham. "

Director Guy Pascall said: “It’s going to be great fun for all the family both young and old alike.
“Everyone remembers such great characters as the ‘The Cowardly Lion’ and ‘The Tin Man’ who needs a heart etc.

“This show will take the original story written by L. Frank Baum and give it a new twist as only New World Productions can!”
The show, which runs from April 1 to April 5, will tell the classic story nine times over the bank holiday weekend.

Tickets cost £15-17 and are available from the Central Theatre Box Office on 01634 338338 or online at www.thecentraltheatre.co.uk

Children aged 6 upwards are needed to star as the Munchkins and roles can be reserved by visiting www.newworldworkshops.co.uk.
