This week, KOS Media sports editor Glenn Pearson came face to face with Kent's new mystery spin bowler - and it wasn't new overseas leg-spinner Malinga Bandara.
The county have just been issued with Merlyn - a new bowling machine that is capable of replicating leg-spin, off-spin and all their weird and wonderful variations.
The new kit, worth £11,000, was supplied by the England and Wales Cricket Board and all 18 English counties have now received one.
The idea behind it is to help county batsmen practice against spin bowling in net practice, something that is difficult to replicate on hard indoor surfaces during the winter off season.
The county invited our sports editor to face the machine during net practice at the club's St Lawrence Ground in Canterbury.
