KENT NEWS: A model soldier was officially crowned Miss England this week and started her tour of duty as our national beauty queen.

As we exclusively reported last week, Corporal Katrina Hodge, 22, from Tunbridge Wells, has taken eight months leave from the Army to carry out the role.

She has also landed a lucrative endorsement deal with an online dating website for the Armed Forces and emergency services.

And she is now set to be used by lingerie company La Senza in their next marketing campaign.

Cpl Hodge, dubbed Combat Barbie by colleagues after winning a bravery award in Iraq, represented her country at the Miss World contest in Johannesburg, South Africa, in December after a last minute call-up.

She came runner-up in the Miss England contest last summer, but was propelled into the limelight in November after the winner Rachel Christie, 21, the niece of former sprint champion Linford Christie, decided to relinquish her title following a highly publicised spat with another woman in a Manchester nightclub.

But due to the short notice before jetting out to South Africa, Cpl Hodge could not be officially crowned Miss England until this week.

She received her sash from the managing director of uniformdating.com, the online site she has signed a £22,000 contract to be the face of, during a ceremony in Guildford, Surrey, on Monday.

Miss England 2008, Laura Coleman, formally handed her crown to her successor.
