Gillingham v Southend United
Priestfield, 3pm kick-off
Gillingham will hand a debut to Manchester United striker Febian Brandy this afternoon as they look to embark on an FA Cup run at the expense of Southend United.
The 20-year-old signed a three-month loan deal this week and will go straight into the starting line-up alongside Simeon Jackson.
Gills boss Mark Stimson has been searching for a striker ever since winning promotion in May and after several failed attempts is delighted to bring in a player he rates highly.
He said: “He’s got a fantastic touch, good movement and good pace. That’s a lot and if he can produce it for us I’m sure he’ll cause defenders a lot of problems.
“He could have quite easily sat in Manchester and maybe gone somewhere else in a couple of weeks, but he’s up for the challenge and that was important for us.”
Other than Brandy, the Gills are likely to be unchanged for the game. Striker Mark McCammon could make the bench after playing for the reserves in midweek as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury.
