Stars including Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen due at Historic Dockyard Chatham for big screen version of Les Miserables
Fancy the chance of appearing in a major musical movie alongside Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and Anne Hathaway?
All you need to do is show up to an open casting session in Chatham, and you could be picked to appear in a big screen version of Les Miserables.
And won’t worry about thinking you won’t be the right age – they need people between 16 and 90 – but it will help if you can look particularly French, and from the 19th century.
Amanda Seyfried, Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen are also set to appear in the film being shot at the Historic Dockyard Chatham.
The session is being run by Uni-versal Extras, based at Pinewood Studios, and at £110 a day, it pays quite well too, if chosen.
Company spokesman Wayne Berko said: “We are currently holding an open casting for people to be extras in the musical feature film Les Miserables.
“We need men and women aged between 16 and 90 years who will be made up to pretend to be people from 19th-century France. The types of role include villagers, passers-by, nuns, students, military officers, and convicts.
“It is quite easy to get in to, but you must be able to take direction well of course, plus be able to easily reach Chatham.
“Filming itself starts in March depending on what role the successful candidates are handed.”
The Historic Dockyard Chatham is no stranger to the big screen, having been used for many blockbusters including Sherlock Holmes starring Robert Downey Jr, as well as The Golden Compass and a couple of Bond movies.
A source at the Dockyard said: “The production people have been down to take a look around, and they appeared to have liked what they saw.”
And an insider with the producers added: “We can’t say too much at the moment, but it does look like we will be at the Dockyard, the place is steeped in history and parts of it are ideal for conversion in to a film set for this sort of project.”
The open casting happens on Saturday, February 4, at the Rochester Building, University of Kent, Chatham Maritime, between 10am-4pm. The company said it is happy for people to bring along friends and family too.
Wayne said: “You just never know where it could all lead if your face fits.”
