Dozens of firefighters spent the early hours of Tuesday morning battling flames at Brands Hatch.

Smoke and flames could be seen rising from the West Kingsdown racetrack from the M20 motorway, causing one driver to call Kent Fire and Rescue Service at around 12.40am.

Firefighters are still at the workshop where the fire started, with the cause of the blaze still unknown.

At the height of the blaze, nine fire engines, a bulk water carrier and a height vehicle were all deployed, with more than 50 firefighters battling the flames.

By 7am, the fire had been extinguished, but Kent Fire and Rescue Service is expected to remain on scene until 2.30pm cooloing down acetylene cylinders, which are at risk of exploding when exposed to heat.

Scratchers Lane is expected to reopen at 2.30pm after being closed since crews’ arrival.

Investigation works are underway, with the cause of the fire not thought to be suspicious.

Brands Hatch remains open for business with only a limited area cordoned off.
