Drivers are being warned to take extra care on the roads

Villagers in Sittingbourne are being urged to keep doors and windows closed following a fire this morning.

A large amount of smoke has smothered the area following a haystack blaze in Hollywell Lane, and drivers are being warned to take extra care on the roads between Upchurch and Lower Halstow.

Two fire engines were called to the incident at around 11.30am on Wednesday after the fire had spread to 13 nearby hay bales.

Crews are now bringing the blaze under control and the incident was reduced to one fire engine at around 12.30pm.
