The death is not being treated as suspicious
A body found at Beachy Head near Eastbourne is believed to be a 55-year-old man who went missing from his home near Tonbridge yesterday.
Charles Young was reported missing from Brenchley on Monday, February 13, who left his home at 6am to travel to Sandhurst in Berkshire.
He was expected back by about 10am but had not returned, although his car has been found not far from his address.
Kent Police have now stopped their search for 55-year-old Mr Young after Sussex Police today identified a body recovered from the bottom of the cliffs at Beachy Head.
A Sussex Police spokesperson said:
“The man’s body was spotted around 5pm on Monday (February 13), but weather conditions prevented its safe recovery that evening. He was recovered by members of the Eastbourne RNLI’s inshore lifeboat at about 8.45am on Tuesday and taken back to the lifeboat station.”
Bob Jeffery of the Eastbourne RNLI said: “Crews recovered a body this morning just each of Beachy Head.
“They were brought back to the station and passed onto police and the coroner.”
The death is not being treated as suspicious and the family of Mr Young have been informed.
The coroner has been notified and an inquest will open in due course.
