Officers say both were treated in hospital for injuries and remain in police custody

Two people were treated in hospital last night after an apparent assault in Maidstone.

Police were called at around 8.15pm on Wednesday after reports of an altercation on the high level bridge near St Faith’s Street.

Officers and ambulance crews attended the scene and a 20-year-old man from Maidstone and a 20-year-old woman from Tonbridge were arrested on suspicion of assault.

It is not believed they were known to each other.

Both were taken to a local hospital for medical attention to injuries that are not described as life threatening. They have been discharged and remain in police custody.

A footpath that runs between St Faith’s Street over the River Medway to Buckland Hill was closed by officers while enquiries were conducted and was reopened in the early hours of this morning (Thursday).
