Some 250 scooterists are set to take part in a ride in aid of a west Kent animal rescue centre.

The event, dubbed Pawdrophenia, has been organised by the Sevenoaks Scooter Club the Big 7.

Next Sunday (September 18) they will ride to Foal Farm in Biggin Hill to deliver pet food, blankets, toys and donations.

The event has also won support from actor and singer Toyah Wilcox, who starred as Monkey in the 70s cult scooter film Quadrophenia.

She said: “Good luck to the big hearted Big 7 on their Pawdrophenia ride.”

Their ride will be followed by a fundraising event at the Tally Ho pub in Knockholt.

Barry Ludlow, founder of of the Big 7 Scooter Club, said: ”We want this to be our biggest charity ride out yet so that we can raise as much money and supplies for Foal Farm Animal Rescue Centre as possible. The charity is really struggling in the current recession and needs our help. Please join us, give us pet food to take or by make a donation at the event afterwards.”

The charity re-homes thousands of animals every year from across the south east.

Kim Puttock, Foal Farm’s chief executive, added: “It’s brilliant that the Big 7 are once again riding to the aid of unwanted animals at our rescue centre and it is wonderful to have the support of Toyah. We desperately need pet food and donations to continue our work.”
