Firefighters are still at the scene of a pub fire in Chatham where a man was rescued from a top floor window earlier this morning.

Crews were called to the scene on Lords Wood Lane just after 4am on Wednesday where they found the pub well alight.

The man helped out of the window was given care by paramedics but is not thought to have suffered any injuries. There were no others involved in the blaze.

Crews in five fire engines and a height vehicle worked through the early hours to contain the fire and to stop it from spreading by using a covering jet, a main jet and hose reel jets.

People living near the pub were advised to keep windows and doors closed for the short term due to smoke.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “The main fire is now out but crews have been tackling the deep seated pockets of fire in the rood of the kitchen.

“Firefighters are cutting away at the roof and using foam to extinguish the fires.

“The ground floor of the pub has been completely destroyed in the blaze.

“The cause isn’t yet known and an investigation into the blaze will take place once the fire has been completely extinguished.”
