The 54-year-old remains in police custody on suspicion of drink-driving and drug offences

A police dog helped officers arrest a man after a smash on the M20 on Sunday when the canine spotted him hiding in bushes.

Officers were called to a report of a crash at the Junction 11 roundabout in Hythe at 6.50pm and had no success in hunting the driver, who was reported to have decamped and left the scene.

A police dog named Eli, pictured with handler PC Ed Goldswain, was deployed to search the dense undergrowth of the roundabout itself.

After following a hidden track over rough terrain PD Eli found the suspect hiding among a set of bushes.

The 54-year-old man, who lives in Basingstoke, was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and being in possession of Class A and Class B drugs.

He was also arrested on suspicion of driving while uninsured and stealing a diving licence. He remains in police custody.
