Super fast broadband to roll out to a host of Kent towns with speeds of up to 100Mbps

BT has confirmed the latest towns in Kent to benefit from its super fast fibre optic upgrade.

Broadstairs, Gillingham, Maidstone, Ramsgate, Dover, Hythe, Loose, Paddock Wood, Rainham, Snodland and Whitstable will all be able to benefit from speeds of up to 100mbps.

The upgrades are due to be completed by the autumn of 2012.

Canterbury MP Julian Brazier, whose constituency covers Whitstable, welcomed the announcement.

He said: “For some time now I have been pressing BT to improve broadband speed in the area – today’s decision is a positive step forward.

“Doubling internet speed at the Whitstable exchange will propel our local community into the 21st century. This is good news for businesses and homes.

“We are all now very reliant on having a good internet connection for internet shopping at home or communicating with business clients here and abroad.

“BT’s decision will speed up e-commerce in east Kent and help strengthen the local economy.”
