Great news for school children using the bus as restrictions are lifted

School children in Kent with a young person’s travel pass can now use it for free bus travel in the evenings, weekends and during school holidays on Stagecoach buses.

The operator confirmed it was extending the use of the pass which had been restricted as costs to parents soared.

The pass, which once was free, now costs £280 for the year after Kent County Council was forced to make savings as its budget was slashed by Whitehall.

Another restriction imposed was that it was limited for use only for one return trip to and from school up to 7pm.

But now Stagecoach is extending the power of the KCC-issued pass up until August 31, 2018.

Philip Norwell, Stagecoach South East managing director, said “This means that students can stay late at school, or meet friends in the evening or at the weekend. They can travel anywhere on our buses in east Kent throughout the school holidays at no cost to the student nor the council - all such travel is provided free by Stagecoach. We think that this encourages young people to use buses and is welcomed by all.”

Students will still need to scan their pass as they board the bus.
