Met Office says Kent will enjoy the best of the country’s temperatures today

Temperatures in Kent could soar to a sweltering 28 degrees C today but forecasters warn it could end in dramatic fashion with thunderstorms expected overnight Tuesday into Wednesday.

However, enjoy the heat while it lasts - by tomorrow temperatures will drop by more than 10 degrees.

The Met Office said: “It will become very warm again across the far south east today with the highest temperatures across Kent.

“There is a chance of very isolated heavy, perhaps thundery, showers coming along, these most likely this evening and these are most likely across Surrey, Sussex and Kent.”

By Wednesday, however, normal service is likely to be resumed for the British summer.

Adds the Met Office: “It will be generally cloudy, with an increasing chance of outbreaks of rain arriving, especially through the evening when the rain may become locally heavy. It will feel noticeably cooler everywhere, compared to Tuesday with maximum temperature 17 degrees C.”
