The paedophile’s last attack came in 2010

A paedophile whose abuse spanned across four decades has been jailed for his crimes.

Freddy Walter repeatedly abused a child during the 1970s and 1980s.

The 73-year-old from Stoneyfield, Edenbridge targeted another victim between 2008 and 2010.

Concerns were raised over the pensioner to Kent Police in 2015.

He refused to comment in police interviews, but later pleaded guilty to two counts of indecent assault against a child, one count of gross indecency with a child, one count of assault by penetration, and to causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

On Friday, Walter was sentenced to 11 years and two months in prison.

He received an additional two years on licence as well as a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which makes it an offence for him to have contact with children.

Det const Ben Clatworthy of Kent Police’s Public Protection Unit said: “Walter manipulated and abused children for his own gratification and they will live with these memories for the rest of their lives.

“This is a significant sentence which reflects the trauma and suffering his victims have endured and I would like to pay tribute to their bravery and courage, which has been key to ensuring justice has now been served.

“If you have been a victim of any sexual offence it is never too late to report this to police.

“We will always treat any information with the upmost confidence and sensitivity.”
