Fatal Maidstone fire: Suspected arsonist arrested as blaze rips through home - killing one

The fire started yesterday (Sunday) evening

A Maidstone man is in police custody after a fire killed one man and put two more people in hospital.

Emergency services were called to the blaze in Marsham Street at around 5.30pm on Sunday.

Fire fighters were the first to arrive at the scene of the fire, which Kent Fire and Rescue Service believe started in the attic space of the house.

On arrival, Secamb paramedics treated a 48-year-old man, who died at the scene.

A woman and another man were rushed to hospital, where the man remains with injuries which, according to Kent Police, are not believed to be life-threatening.

The woman has now been discharged.

The next of kin of the 48-year-old man who died in the fire have been informed of his death.

A 38-year-old man from Maidstone was arrested on suspicion of arson and remains in police custody. Enquiries are ongoing.
