Motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journey

Drivers across Kent are facing delays of up to 60 minutes this morning rush hour due to congestion on a major motorway.

Traffic is currently queuing on the London-bound carriageway of the M20 from junction 5 to Aylesford all the way back to junction 8 for Leeds Castle.

Highways chiefs expect the worst of the congestion to clear by around 9.15am and motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journey if possible.

An earlier crash was also causing delays on the M2 coast-bound carriageway, though traffic is now beginning to clear.
