Fire crews battled flames on Sunday morning

Fears “flammable liquid” was intentionally poured through a Dover home’s letterbox and then ignited are now under investigation.

Fire crews were called to Kitchener Road just after 4.20am on Sunday, after the front door of a property was alight and had spread inside to the hallway carpet.

The fire was out by 4.35am and there were no reported injuries.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “The cause of the fire is thought to have been deliberate and is believed to have been caused by a flammable liquid being ignited. An investigation is underway.”

Kent Police was called minutes after the fire had been put out and is now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A police spokesperson said: “Anyone who was in the area at the time or has information about the incident, is asked to contact Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting ZY/36246/17.

“Alternatively, contact Kent Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.”
