A 16-year-old boy who vandalised 19 cars has been ordered to write letters of apology to the victims.

The teenager from Lydd appeared before magistrates in Canterbury on Tuesday.

He admitted damaging the car windows of 19 vehicles in April and was given a six month youth rehabilitation order.

The order forbids him from leaving his house between 9pm and 7am.

The court has ordered that the boy write letters of apology to all the car owners and pay £500 compensation.

Sgt Jazz Bloomfield of the Shepway neighbourhood police team said: “This was mindless vandalism that involved a lot of disruption and inconvenience for the car owners.

“Officers responded quickly and information led us to this person who admitted the offences and was put before the court.”
