Stretch of A2050 closed in both directions
Canterbury was in danger of grinding to a halt this afternoon after a major smash closed one of the main roads in and out of the city.
A stretch of the A2050 near the junction of the Old Dover Road roundabout and A2 has been closed in both directions causing snarl-ups in all directions.
The accident saw a man airlifted to hospital after emergency services and the Kent Air Ambulance were called.
Kent Highways is advising vehicle drivers to find an alternative route.
A police spokesman said: “Kent Police was called at 2.19pm today to a road traffic collision between two cars on the A2050 near the New Dover Park and Ride, Canterbury.
“The cars involved were a Citroen Picasso and a Vauxhall Zafira. One man has been airlifted to King’s College Hospital in London with serious injuries. The road is currently closed and police are asking drivers to avoid the area.”
