An Ashford School science teacher has won a national award at an event hosted by the Prince of Wales’ step-son.
Head of biology Rob Turner was named ‘top teacher’ at the Archant Good Schools Show, which was hosted by food writer and broadcaster Tom Parker Bowles.
Mr Turner, who joined the boarding school in 2004 and also rehearses one of its five rock bands, faced competition from teachers across the UK.
“I was very hesitant to accept this award as I know there are teachers in this school alone who better deserve it,” he said.
“Nevertheless, it is a huge compliment and I’m very grateful to all pupils and parents who voted for me.”
Headteacher Mike Buchanan added: “We are all absolutely delighted for Rob. He is a shining example of the innovative teaching that goes on in the school.
“He is respected by staff, students and parents for his love of his subject and his commitment to school life.”
At the awards ceremony, which was held in London earlier this month, Ashford School was also voted one of the top five boarding schools and was a runner-up in the ‘outstanding contribution to the community’ category.
Archant is a regional newspaper, magazine, contract printing and e-publishing media group which includes this website in its portfolio.
