Was Dover Castle a den of lies, cover-ups and manipulation?
If conspiracy theories are your thing and history is in your heart, then a talk from bestselling author about the mysteries of Dover Castle could be right up your rampart.
East Kent historical author Sarah Gristwood will be offering a fascinating look into the world of Tudor Conspiracy and Cover-Up s at Dover Castle during an evening talk at the Castle on Wednesday, February 29.
She said: ‘It’s amazing how closely the period mirrored our own. The power of negative or ‘black’ PR, the actions of agents provocateur… the more you look into the conspiracies of that time, you can see how deep the manipulation was. The Tudors could teach us a thing or two!’
Using her extensive knowledge of the Tudor period and turning the pages on some of her bestselling books, Sarah will offer up an intriguing insight into historical plots worthy of any contemporary conspiracy film.
Her historical biographies include Arbella: England’s Lost Queen, which the story of Lady Arabella Stuart, a possble successor to the throne of Elizabeth I. She has also written Elizabeth & Leicester, the story of the love affair between Elizabeth I and Robert Dudley Earl of Leicester, are full of political poison, illicit surveillance and criminal cover-ups – comparable to films like the recent Bourne trilogy.
