Michael Howard
An alien
Shepway MP Michael Howard could have been the target of an alien intrusion at his Lympne home, according to top-secret documents released today (Thu, Feb 18).

At least three eyewitnesses in Burmarsh and New Romney spotted a large, triangular object which was ‘humming’ near Mr Howard’s house during his final months as Home Secretary in 1997.

It was claimed that the UFO hovered for several minutes above a field on March 8 before shooting off in a flash of light.

An investigation by the RAF found that there was no evidence of unauthorised air activity or any security alert in the area at the time, according to documents released by the National Archives.

The object was said to be the size of two passenger planes and the sighting was one of more than 1,600 UFOs reported to the Ministry of Defence between 1996 and 2000, at a rate of almost one a day.

An amateur UFO-reporting group, UFO Monitoring East Kent (UFOMEK), sent in its own report to the Government quoting an eyewitness who said:

“It was just a huge triangle thing, which was a lot bigger than an aeroplane or anything like that.

“It had lights all around the outside, and this disc attached to the back, and a big light on the front. I pulled up to a stop and as I did it shot off.

“I was really frightened by it and I’m not stupid. I don’t believe in anything like that [UFOs]. This is not something I’ve ever seen before or like something we would have built.”

Chris Rolfe, co-ordinator of UFOMEK, warned at the time that the object could have been looking for Mr Howard.

Mr Rolfe was quoted in the report to have said: “It would seem the UFO was disinterested in Sophie, the girl who reported it and watched it for quite a long time.

“This certainly makes it seem like it had a purpose and has left me wondering if its purpose had something to do with Mr Howard.”

An RAF investigation after the sighting found nothing and said there was no evidence of a security breach.

One letter from the MoD addressed to an unnamed witness said: “Your letters mention a UFO sighting over the home of the former Home Secretary Michael Howard, near Folkestone.

“Although the MoD has received reports of an alleged ‘UFO’ sighting near Michael Howard’s home on March 8, 1997, MoD air defence staff have confirmed that there is no evidence to suggest any unauthorised incursion of the UK Air Defence Region on that date.”

Firstly are the picture captions the right way round ??

Secondly, if there were aliens trying to abduct M.Howard, perhaps they weren't aware of Ann Widdecombe's comment that 'he had something of the night about him'.

So perhaps they tried an abduction but all he had to do was 'bare his fangs' to send them packing.....
