Angels boss Tommy Warrilow was left seething with the match officials, claiming the referee cost his side two points on a horrible night at The Brockwell Stadium.

Lee Minshull earned a share of the spoils with a 76th minute goal to cancel out James Rowe's first-half opener, but it was the performance of the referee that was the focus of Warrilow's anger after the game.

The Tonbridge boss made a big call before the game, choosing to leave out leading goalscorer Carl Rook, while Steve Ferguson and Jon Heath both missed the game through injury.

Persistent rain and a strong wind blew right down the centre of the pitch making good football almost impossible and the elements played a big part in the opening goal of the game.

A long kick from goalkeeper James Russell was helped on by the wind and found Rowe in front of goal. The Canvey striker appeared to control the ball with his arm before neatly lobbing Lee Worgan on 21 minutes.

Marc Cumberbatch had to be alert to clear the ball off the line five minutes before the interval as the Angels struggled to get to grips with the conditions.

They came out with renewed purpose in the second period and launched a swathe of attacks on the Canvey goal. Liam Harwood should have equalised when he met a Kirk Watts free-kick, but Russell in the Canvey goal made a smart stop to his left to deny the Angels defender.

Warrilow introduced Rook on the hour mark and his presence up front alongside Paul Booth and John-Michael Sigere gave the Angels the impetus they needed.

They equalised with 15 minutes to go when the influential Watts beat his man on the left before drilling in a low cross that was met by the onrushing Lee Minshull, who slammed the ball past Russell for a deserved equaliser.

The visitors went all out for the win as they launched attack after attack on the home goal and were left wondering how they hadn't picked up all three points when a Watts corner looked to have found its way in, but somehow was cleared off the line.

Booth was the next to go close on 82 minutes when his shoot angled just wide of Russell's goal after having been sent clear by Sigere.

Harwood again went agonisingly close with a header from a Watts corner before Tonbridge thought they had earned a penalty when Booth was hauled down in the box. The referee waved away the Angels protests, but not before issuing Booth a straight red card for something he said to the official.

Both sides were left to settle for a point, leaving Canvey in third spot and Tonbridge in fourth ahead of the Angels visit to Ashford Town on Saturday.
