England coach Sven Goran Eriksson has admitted his decision to leave out Charlton striker Darren Bent from his provisional squad for the FIFA World Cup was ‘not logical’.
But instead he has opted for the untested Theo Walcott – the much-hyped Arsenal youngster who has yet to make an appearance in the Premiership following his high-profile signing from Southampton.
Eriksson said at today’s official unveiling: “It is not logical to select Walcott over Bent, but sometimes you go by feelings.”
Addicks skipper Luke Young fared slightly better – but could make the five-man standby list.
Meanwhile, Charlton made their first new signing of the summer by securing the services of international Cory Gibbs on a free transfer.
The 26-year-old left-sided defender turned down Middlesbrough to join Charlton from Dutch side Feyenoord.
