Swift action by a police patrol led to the recovery of a stolen parcel delivery van.
The van driver was making a delivery to an address in Main Road, near Sevenoaks, on Thursday at 2.30pm.
As he was walking back he saw it being driving off in the direction of Church Road.
Police were able to locate the van, which was carrying more than 50 parcels, as it was driving in the Polhill area. The van did not stop but officers followed it until it came to a halt near the High Street, Orpington. The driver ran off from the van but was arrested shortly afterwards.
Inspector Simon Wilshaw, of Kent Police, said: “I have little doubt that all the parcels the van was carrying would have been lost had we not been able to locate and follow it.
“This is a very timely reminder to all drivers, business or otherwise, that it is important to make sure your vehicle is left secure even if you are only away from it for only a matter of seconds.”
A 21-year-old Orpington man was arrested in connection with this incident. He is currently on police bail while further inquiries are made.
