Helen Grant with Sam Lain
Young entertainers from across the county battled it out with hopes of winning a talent competition but there could only be one lucky entrant.

Thirteen acts made it through to the finals of Kent’s Got Talent, but it was Esme Thomas, from Wateringbury, who was crownednumber one after wowing the five judges with her powerful soprano performance.

The talented 10-year-old said: “I am so glad that I have had this chance and that my singing teacher was proud of me.”

Hundreds turned out to see the youngsters perform at the live finals of the competition, held at Mote Park Leisure Centre, which was all organised by 16-year-old Sam Lain, from Staplehurst.

Among the audience was the Conservative parliamentary candidate for Maidstone and Weald, Helen Grant.

Mrs Grant said: “It’s been a pleasure and a privilege watching Sam Lain and his team’s hard work and determination blossom into a truly entertaining stage production.

“The quality of the artists and maturity of the judging panel were a joy to behold and I wish all of them success. They were all really great and winners in my book.”

The teenage mastermind behind Kent’s Got Talent wanted to host the event on November 14 in aid of charity and raised almost £1,200 for Cancer Research UK.

The budding businessman said: “Every volunteer that assisted me in the event worked ever so hard and I cannot thank them enough.

“Together we have provided a platform for some great Kent talent and raised some much needed cash for Cancer Research UK.”
