Margaret Callow with Poppy
A seven-year-old girl has been left broken hearted after thieves stole her pet puppy from its kennel.

Little Margaret Callow had saved her pocket money for two years to buy Poppy, a cocker spaniel, but she returned home from school to find her puppy had been stolen.

Speaking from her home in Maidstone little Margaret said: "I love Poppy more than anything and I just want her to come home.

"She is such a fun dog and has a very silky coat."

With tears in her eyes, she added: "It's not really worth getting up in the morning without Poppy. She is my best friend in all the world."

Asked what should happen to the people who stole Poppy, Margaret said: "They should be arrested as soon as I get Poppy back."

Margaret's mum Rebecca said her daughter, who saved up £500 to pay for he beloved pooch, is devastated, adding: "She cried and cried and cried. She was inconsolable.

"She had wanted a cocker spaniel for so long and had saved all her pocket money, all her birthday money and Christmas money, and the little bits she made from doing little jobs for people since she was five years old.

"It has affected the whole family. We can't eat, we can't sleep, we are just so worried.

"We just want Poppy back at home where she belongs."

Little Margaret returned from school at nearby St Margaret's Primary on Tuesday afternoon when her dad Chris had to break the news to her that thieves had snatched Poppy from her kennel.

Mum Rebecca, an accountant, said: "Margaret has gone from being a fairly resilient little girl to being completely devastated.

"She came home from school and when we told her she just started howling. The news actually made her sick."

She added: "Today I found Poppy's bedding in Margaret's bed. She had taken it up without anyone knowing.

"I don't know what I can do to get my little girl back to how she was - all I can do is pray that the people who took her search their souls and return Poppy."

Poppy, a four-month-old cocker spaniel, is a liver and white bitch.

Details of her theft have been posted on www.doglost.co.uk - a website that helps reunite lost and stolen dogs with their owners.

A police spokesman said: "The investigation into Poppy's theft is ongoing."

Rebecca and Chris have spent the weekend putting up ‘Missing’ posters on telegraph poles and trees around their home.

They have also been talking to dog walkers and appealing for any help to get little Poppy back.
