Plans for one of the world’s largest offshore wind farms have taken a “significant step” forward.
The consortium behind London Array has welcomed the go-ahead from the Government for important electricity transmission works.
The array would consist of 341 wind turbines in the Thames Estuary and would supply enough power to meet the needs of a quarter of London houses or every home in Kent and East Sussex.
Andrew Murfin, London Array’s project director, said: This is great news and is another significant step towards the development of this flagship project for the UK.”
The proposals have met with considerable opposition from locals who warned against environmental damage to coastline.
