Kent wicketkeeper Geraint Jones found out he had been omitted from England’s ICC Cricket World Cup squad after his wife read about it on the internet.
Jones was left out of the 30-man provisional squad after being dropped from the international set-up following a disappointing display in the first three Ashes Tests this winter.
But he only found out he was no longer part of their plans when wife Jenny rang him to say she had read about it online.
Jones said: “That’s the way of the world now. You can’t expect a phone call every time. You don’t always get a call to say you’re in, so it isn’t a complete surprise you don’t get one to say you’re out.”
The Kent star has signed for his former Australian team Beenleigh-Logan in Queensland rather than return to the UK after the disappointment of the Ashes.
He added: “I have a season at Kent coming up and have to make sure I'm the fittest and in the best form I can be.”
