Naomi Watts with Heath Ledger at an awards ceremony
Naomi Watts immediately burst into tears when she learned of her former lover, Heath Ledger's death, said media reports.

The Kent-born actress broke down in tears at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, America following news of the young actor's death.

She cancelled all her press appearances on Wednesday. Mr Ledger, 28, was found dead in his New York home. Media reports said he had been taking a prescription drug.

An autopsy proved inconclusive.

Miss Watts and Mr Ledger dated for three years after meeting on the set of Ned Kelly in 2002.

Miss Watts was raised in the village of Shoreham, near Sevenoaks, before moving to Australia as a teenager.
