A survey by the NHS has revealed how happy people in east Kent are with their local family doctors.
The Eastern and Coastal Kent Primary Care Trust, which looks after the health of more than 700,000 people in the Swale, Canterbury, Ashford, Thanet and Shepway areas, said it was pleased with the results.
Around 65,000 survey forms were sent out to patients at 114 GP surgeries and 44 per cent were returned.
Of those surveyed, 87 per cent were satisfied with the access over the telephone to their GP and 88 per cent said they were able to see a family doctor within 48 hours.
A total of 72 per cent of patients were able to book ahead by two days if required and 83 per cent were satisfied with GP practice opening hours.
However, some respondents wanted longer opening hours, particularly on Saturday mornings.
As a result, the PCT is working with GPs to explore ways of extending allow surgeries to open for longer.
A spokesman said: “The PCT welcomes the number of surveys returned and recognises that although many practices achieve excellent access for patients, there are areas where this could be improved.
“The PCT is committed to working with practices to improve access where it is needed. As part of its business plan and corporate objectives, the PCT is committed to investing money into primary care services to improve services for patients and provide better, faster care, closer to home.”
