A man has been charged after £3 million of heroin was allegedly found hidden inside boxes of bacon.
Philip Tasker, 42, from Southport, Merseyside, was stopped at Eastern Dock, Dover, on October 17 by UK Border Agency (UKBA) officers.
During a search of the British registered Citroen van he was driving, UKBA officers allegedly discovered a number of black taped wrapped packages within boxes marked bacon.
The contents of the packages tested positive for heroin.
HM Revenue and Customs have charged Tasker with the attempted importation Class A drugs,
He was released on bail and is due to appear at Dover Magistrates Court on Thursday, October 23.
