Lembit Opik and Julian Brazier
Brazier takes to the ice wall
A Kent Tory MP has found himself the butt of jokes in an online newspaper blog this week after striking a pose with a Lib-Dem frontbencher.
Julian Brazier, MP for Canterbury, appeared in rock climbing garb alongside Lembit Opik, the Liberal Democrat housing spokesman, in a photo that was sent out by the Tory to promote National Outdoor Week.
The odd couple are co-chairmen of the House of Commons' All Party Parliamentary Group on Adventure and Recreation.
The photo was printed in Times journalist Sam Coates’ blog The Red Box as a caption competition, with Mr Coates asking his readers, “What are they thinking?”
Among the responses were: “Cheeky Boys stag night proves less interesting than hoped”,
“The credit crunch won’t get us here”, “Well this seems a good place to bury our careers”, and “a couple of picks in a cave”.
