An MP has written to the chairman of Channel 4 over alleged racism on its Celebrity Big Brother show.
Julian Brazier, Tory MP for Canterbury and Whitstable, enclosed a letter from an angry constituent when he wrote to Luke Johnson.
By Friday, more than 30,000 people had complained over remarks directed at Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty by housemates Jade Goody, Danielle Lloyd and Jo O'Meara.
Mr Brazier told Mr Johnson: "Although describing itself as a 'reality television programme', the show is edited every day to cut it down, remove the boring sections, and anything too graphic.
"If it is the duty of the editors to cut out sexually-explicit elements, it is surely also the duty to cut out sections which are explicitly racist.
"Such elements not only offend huge numbers of people, but might imply acceptance of racist language and behaviour."
He added: "I feel that Channel 4 has let itself down badly on this issue."
Derek Wyatt, Labour MP for Sittingbourne and Sheppey, was among those to sign an Early Day Motion in Parliament calling on the makers of Celebrity Big Brother to, "take urgent action to remind housemates that racist behaviour is unacceptable".
