A Tory frontbencher has met with a railway chief to protest over plans to axe trains from two west Kent towns to Gatwick Airport.
Greg Clark, the MP for Tunbridge Wells, spoke out against Southern Railways’ proposals during a meeting with the company’s chief executive Chris Burchell.
“At the very time when we want to encourage the use of public transport to reduce traffic congestion, I am dismayed at this decision,” Mr Clark said.
He said he would continue to work with local authorities to press the case for keeping the service to the airport from Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells.
“If these plans go ahead, Kent will be the only county in South East England without a direct rail link to Gatwick Airport,” he added.
