Actress and model Kelly Brook has landed a leading roll in a major West End play.

Her part in Calendar Girls is being rewritten for a younger woman after an audition helped her take the roll of Celia from Texan model Jerry Hall, 53.

Not that Kelly, from Rochester, will mind some more stripping off – she has been a successful model for years, and is a paparazzi favourite when she takes beach holidays.

She is also no stranger to the stage. Just a year ago, she was seen clad in just a bikini in Fat Pig.

Now in Calendar Girls, the 29-year-old gets to use just a pair of iced buns to cover her modesty.

Mirroring the famous line from Jaws about a bigger boat, in the play, the character Chris says on seeing Celia: “I think we're going to need considerably bigger buns.”

Kelly is currently hard at work getting up to speed on the part which was an international hit as a 2003 movie based on the charity calendar produced by members of the Women’s Institute in Rylstone, North Yorkshire.

The hilarious story has a darker side. The women produced the nude pictorial of themselves in 1999 to raise cash for the leukaemia wing of a hospital after one of their husbands died from the blood disease.

The film started Helen Mirren as Chris along with Julie Walters and Life on Mars star Philip Glenister in an early role.

A theatre source said: “Kelly is doing pretty well, but this is a big part to take on.
“Jerry did it superbly, and Kelly is determined to make the part her own. It has been rewritten slightly to take into account the different ages, but everyone is looking forward to how this works out.

“Kelly is very professional and a hard worker, so there should be no glitches.”

She will seen at Miss September by audiences on November 3 at London’s Noel Coward Theatre in St Martin’s Lane.

Kelly will be joined by former Coronation Street actress Julie Goodyear as Miss July, Cora; Jan Leeming, who lives near Canterbury as Lady Cravenshire; and Arabella Weir as Miss October, Chris.

In 2000, Kelly also had to disrobe for a theatre roll when she appeared in Eye Contact as an exotic dancer called Anya.

Ms Brook, who once dated movie tough guys Jason Statham and Billy Zane, was roundly criticised for her wooden appearance on the live Big Breakfast show, and was dropped as a judge from Britain’s Got Talent last year.
