Double Olympic gold medal winner Dame Kelly Holmes will be taking to the race track again next weekend – but this time on four wheels.

The Hildenborough superstar will be supporting a new team, Nightingale Racing, in its first season in the Fun Cup Endurance series.

Which means she’ll be trying out the car at Brands Hatch, as well as taking to the pit lanes of the circuit next Saturday.

The former BBC Sports Personality of the Year will also draw the teams’ grid lane positions for the afternoon’s Fun Cup race and present the winners with their trophies.

Nightingale Racing co-driver Michael Lockyer, a supporter of the former athlete’s charity, the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust, and her host for the day, said: “I am delighted Dame Kelly is joining Nightingale Racing at Brands to meet my co-drivers, mechanics and other crew that make our entry to the Fun Cup possible.”

The trust looks to give disadvantaged youngsters the chance to fulfil their sporting potential by working alongside key athletes.

Mr Lockyer added: “I’m sure Dame Kelly’s desire to win will inspire my team and all others competing on the day to do their best, in what is going to be a tough race.”

Dame Kelly shot to global fame when she won gold in the  800m and 1,500m races at the Athens Olympics in 2004; victories which elevated her to the status of Britain’s most successful middle-distance runner.
