Thousands of businessmen are preparing for a major industry gathering.

More than 300 county companies are exhibiting at the Kent 2020 Vision 07 event on Thursday – the biggest free conference and business-to-business exhibition in the county this year.

Taking place at the Kent Showground, Detling, there will be a day-long series of workshops geared to helping local businesses benefit from the growth opportunities in the county and improve the way they work.

The programme of four free half-hour workshops begins at 8.45am with Fit to Procure, examining how companies can get ahead of the competition when it comes to bidding for the £125 billion per year public sector contracts linked to the London games in 2012.

At 11.15am Edward de Bono’s support team presents Six Thinking Hats, showing how businesses can reduce meeting times by three quarters, improve individual and team decision-making and hone in on action rather than debate.

The aim is to show how time-consuming and unproductive meetings can made more focussed and action-oriented.

Dr de Bono, the ‘father of lateral thinking’, is one of the event’s keynote speakers.

He is regarded as an authority on creativity who has worked with major global businesses to encourage constructive thinking.

At 3.15pm his Lateral Thinking and Serious Creativity workshop aims to enable attendees to harness “creativity on demand” and come up with innovative ideas.

The 1.15pm workshop addresses Innovation and Creative Thinking  – Their Importance to Business Survival. There will also be opportunities to have business questions answered by experts from a broad spectrum of public, private and voluntary organisations.

Kent 2020 Vision 07 will be held at Kent Showground on Thursday from 8am until 5.30pm. Book free tickets online at www.eventskent.co.uk, contact events@businesslinkkent.co.uk or call the events hotline on 01732 878555.
