A top American Football club in the county says news London is to host a regular season National Football League (NFL) game later this year could spark a huge surge of interest in the game at a local level.
While confirmation of where the game will take place has yet to be made, it is widely understood that the new Wembley Stadium will host the clash – believed to be a home game for the Miami Dolphins against the New York Giants.
Kent Exiles coach and player Martin Jefkins said: “It really is fantastic news. For the UK to be the first place to host a regular season game outside of the Americas is a real boost for everyone involved in the sport at a local level.
“Previously we’ve only seen pre-season games so to have a proper match which counts towards the end of season standings is a coup.”
