Mike Conway has been called up to test for 2009 Formula One team champions Mercedes Grand Prix, formally Brawn GP.
The 24-year-old from Sevenoaks has been racing in the Indy Racing League series in America this season and narrowly missed out on finishing as top rookie. However, this morning the Mercedes Grand Prix team announced that Conway will take part in a three-day test at Spain’s Jerez circuit next month.
With Mercedes buying the Brawn GP team earlier this month and world champion driver Jenson Button moving to McLaren, driver seats have opened up at the team. Conway admitted he would like to stay in the Indy Racing League next season, but revealed he still hopes to one day drive in Formula One.
The former British Formula 3 champion is no stranger to the team and boss Ross Brawn after spending a year as part of their young driver programme, when the team was owned by Honda in 2007 and 2008.
Conway’s test begins next Tuesday.
