Sevenoaks driver Mike Conway suffered two retirements in another character building experience at the eighth round of the GP2 championship at Istanbul.
Following an excellent drive in the last round at Hungary reigning British Formula 3 Champion Conway was hoping for a similar performance.
The weekend did not start well when Conway was penalised for overtaking under yellow flags in qualifying dropping him seven places on the grid.
Conway made a good start from 19th on the grid and picked up places before the first corner, where he spun and was collected by the rest of the field. Conway tried to continue but a bent steering arm forced him to retire.
Sunday’s race had a similar result with Conway once again starting well overtaking several cars on the opening lap. However whilst braking for turn seven and trying to pass rival Sebastien Buemi Conway was hit from behind by Kohei Hirate taking him out of the race.
After the disappointing weekend Conway said: “Unlike here, the next three rounds are at circuits I know. They should all be good for me and the team and I feel I’ve got nothing to lose now.”
The next round of the championship will be in a fortnight at Monza, Italy.
