Jane Andrews
Convicted murderer Jane Andrews was discovered at a Premier Inn with three friends after three days on the run.

The former royal aide, who killed her boyfriend in 2000, escaped HMP East Sutton Park on Sunday, November 22, during an 8pm roll-call.

Following a high-scale search of the area the 42-year-old was discovered in the early hours of this morning at the hotel within the M20 Junction eight services, and taken into police custody.

It has been confirmed the three people are known to the inmate and have been questioned by officials, but not arrested.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: “Officers attended the Premier Inn at the M20, junction 8, motorway services shortly after 3am today.

“Jane Andrews was found in a room at the hotel and was in the company of three people who are known to her.

“Miss Andrews was arrested for absconding from East Sutton prison and taken into custody. The three people she was were not arrested but have all been spoken to by police officers.

“Kent Police is now continuing their investigation which will include working with the Crown Prosecution Service to determine if criminal charges will be brought.”

It is believed Andrews’ whereabouts were reported to police by a fellow guest at the hotel.

Andrews, who was once a dresser for the Duchess of York, was given a life sentence, which was later reduced to 12 years, for murdering Tom Cressman, by stabbing him with a knife and battering him with a cricket bat for refusing to marry her.

The convicted killer had only been moved to the Maidstone-based women’s prison four days before she fled.

On the day of her arrival it has been reported she was rushed to hospital after she swallowed excessive paracetamol tablets in an apparent suicide attempt.

The decision to move Andrews to the open prison has been condemned by her victim’s family members and now the Mid Kent MP Hugh Robertson who has demanded answers from the Home Secretary Alan Johnson.

Mr Robertson said: “I want to congratulate Kent Police on catching Jane Andrews so quickly.

“However, many of my constituents are asking why a convicted murderer was placed in an open prison so early in her sentence and I want the Home Secretary to provide an explanation.”

A national newspaper claims Andrews is currently at Holloway prison, North London, where her mental health will be assessed before her next location will be decided.

The Ministry of Justice is expected to launch an internal investigation to determine how Andrews escaped.
