KENT NEWS: A cafe-owner who painted his security shutters bright red without permission has been ordered to pay £3,280.
Essex resident Malvin Brown, who owns Uncle’s Café in Milton Road, Swanscombe, was prosecuted after people living near the business complained to Dartford council.
He failed to comply with two planning enforcement notices sent to him and was taken to court as a result.
Brown appeared before Dartford magistrates last Monday, when he was fined £500 for each notice ignored.
He was also ordered to pay £2,265 court costs, and a victim’s surcharge of £15.
A council spokesman said the shutters did not meet with planning officers’ standards due to their closed mesh construction and "strident" red colour.
