Gillingham winger Andy Barcham is desperate for the side to follow up their superb win against Huddersfield with an away win at Stockport this weekend.
The Gills’ 2-0 win on Saturday built a useful gap over the sides in the bottom four, but they have been held back all season by their woeful away form. They are still waiting for a first triumph on the road and Barcham is determined to help break the hoodoo at the bottom club on Saturday.
He said: “Starting with Stockport we definitely need to start winning away from home. It’s no good turning Huddersfield over and then losing away. We’ve said it time and time again this season where we’ve performed really well at home and then gone away to a winnable game and we seem to come unstuck. We’re not sure why but hopefully on Saturday we can put it to bed.”
Barcham excelled on Saturday on his first start in five games. The winger admitted it had been hard to go from a first-team regular to watching games from the bench, but believes the added competition has helped the club improve their results in recent weeks.
He said: “Everyone’s playing for their places. I’ve had a spell on the sidelines and I know what it’s like, no one wants to be there, but it’s all good for the team because everyone’s fighting to stay on top of their game and not lose their place for the next game.”
